One of the things I love about Christmastime is listening to the songs people have written for this holiday. There are the upbeat songs, and the romantic songs, and the fairytale songs, and then there are the sad songs. One sad song that literally makes me so sad is "The Christmas Shoes." It's about a little boy who wants to buy a pair of shoes for his sick, dying mother, but he doesn't have enough money. The man behind him in line pays for the rest of the shoes and the boy runs off to his mother in gratitude. The boy's words go like this:

"Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my mama, please It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size Could you hurry, sir, daddy says there's not much time You see she's been sick for quite a while And I know these shoes would make her smile And I want her to look beautiful if mama meets Jesus tonight."

After the boy runs off, the man says this to himself,

"I knew I'd caught a glimpse of heaven's love As he thanked me and ran out I knew that God had sent that little boy To remind me just what Christmas is all about."

During the holidays, we often spend our time window shopping, writing our Christmas lists, and wishing for things we don't have. This can cause us to forget the true reason we have Christmas. We celebrate Christmas because Jesus came down from Heaven to Earth for us. He gave us the greatest gift of all- himself. That is why we celebrate. We can't forget all the people struggling and going through hard times this season. They need our prayers this season. So maybe this season instead of writing lengthy lists of things you don't need, I encourage you to bless someone in need this season.
